Why choose Power BI

01

Integration with Excel

The ability to integrate with Excel in Power BI helps users view and work with the raw data hidden behind the Power BI visualisation.

02

Data Availability

Power BI offers easy access to data sources and the data set you create when developing reports. All data you import from sources and work with is stored in a centralised location.

03

Artificial Intelligence Capabilities

Power BI offers three powerful AI visualisations that developers can use to dive deeper into their data and generate insights and identify trends.

04

Personal Gateway

A personal gateway is a tool that you can use with Power BI to authenticate data sources that are located locally and outside the firewall.

05

High Security

Power BI takes advantage of Microsoft’s Cloud App Security feature, which provides rich visibility, control over data travel, and sophisticated analytics to identify and combat cyberthreats across all your Microsoft and third-party cloud services.

06

Quick Updates

Power BI receives updates from Microsoft every month. Microsoft has created a user community where users can upload their Power BI suggestions and settings.

Frequently asked questions

Is Power BI good for startups?

Power BI Pro at $10/user/month is the most affordable enterprise BI tool. Best fit for Microsoft-heavy shops (Azure, Dynamics, Excel). For non-Microsoft stacks, Metabase or Looker Studio may integrate better.

Power BI Desktop vs Power BI Service — what is the difference?

Desktop is free for report building. Service (cloud) adds sharing, scheduled refresh, row-level security, and dashboards. You need both — build in Desktop, publish to Service.

Can Power BI connect to Snowflake or BigQuery?

Yes. Power BI has native connectors for both. DirectQuery mode enables live queries. For best performance, use Import mode with scheduled refresh for datasets under 1GB.
